The Dupont Circle Art Galleries hold opening receptions (which
are free and open to the public, no invitation needed) on the first Friday of each month
from 5 to 8 pm.
There are over 25 galleries located in the Dupont Circle
neighborhood, many on Connecticut Avenue and R Street. All the galleries carry Galleries
Magazine which gives directions and provides maps. On First Fridays the galleries serve
food and wine; there are often musicians playing; and lanterns lit -- all very festive.
There are many restaurants and open air cafes -- more incentive for a lovely evening! The Washington Printmakers Gallery, located on Connecticut Avenue between R
Street and Florida Avenue, features a new solo artist each month. The other 35 printmakers
each hang a new piece each month in the adjacent room. You will see etchings, aquatints,
lithographs, serigraphs, collagraphs, monotypes and much more. Also at 1732 is Global Fine
Art gallery, featuring a wide range of original art, including paintings, sculpture,
photography and prints. Our next door neighbor, Connecticut Avenue, Connors Contemporary
-- a fine print gallery.
Other galleries in the Dupont Circle neighborhood include Gallery K
(energetic, contemporary art); America Oh Yes! (primitive and visionary art); the Inuit
Gallery (small sculptures and prints by Alaskan artists); Studio Gallery (the oldest
cooperative gallery in Washington DC); and many more.
To reach the Washington Printmakers Gallery, exit Metro's red line at Dupont Circle; take
the Q Street exit; walk north on Connecticut Avenue to 1732 -- second floor. Our welcome
mat is always out -- and we look forward to visiting with you!
