Members Spotlight: Into the Layered Field at Portico Gallery

Two Washington Printmakers Gallery members are currently featured in a luminous and materially rich exhibition curated by John Paradiso at Portico Gallery at Studio 3807. Titled Into the Layered Field, the show brings together the work of Barbara Bitondo and Kristine DeNinno, whose print‑based practices explore accumulation, surface, and the quiet power of process‑driven making.

At Into the Layered Field, viewers encounter works in a bright, sunlit gallery that unfold slowly—layer by layer—revealing embedded materials, stitched threads, and expressive marks that blur the boundaries between printmaking, drawing, and painting. Working primarily with monoprint and collagraph techniques, both artists build surfaces that feel grown rather than composed, allowing intuition and repetition to guide each piece. The result is a cohesive collaboration that rewards close looking and invites sustained attention, making this exhibition especially compelling for designers, collectors, and anyone drawn to the tactile language of contemporary printmaking.

The exhibition is open Saturdays from 12–3 pm and by appointment with either artist at other times.
