Niki de Saint Phalle: In Print

Niki de Saint Phalle is having a significant moment in the art world! She was featured in the 2021 exhibition "Niki de Saint Phalle: Structures for Life" at MoMA PS1, which highlighted her influence and recognition, is currently included in the epic retrospective, Niki de Saint Phalle, Jean Tinguely, Pontus Hulten at the Grand Palais showcasing her creative journey and iconic works and of course, the documentary "Viva Niki" premiered at the Vancouver International Film Festival, last year celebrating her life and work.

While the artist’s monumental Tarot Garden  in Grosseto, Italy solidified her status as a prominent figure in contemporary art, and her exuberant Nana’s dancing installed on New York Avenue are unforgettable, it is Saint Phalle’s captivating work as a printmaker which is taking center stage at the National Museum of Women in the arts these days!

Washington Printmakers Gallery members, Barbara Bitondo, Suzanne Bartlett and Kristine Deninno recently visited Niki de Saint Phalle In Print, on view at NMWA to see the twenty, never-before-exhibited prints from the museum’s collection are on view through 30 November. Produced in California, each blends vivid colors with the artist’s animated drawing style and looping handwriting conveying insights and dreams.
