The bold, satisfying craft of linoleum printmaking combines carving and printing to create striking, tactile artwork. This hands-on introductory class—perfect for beginners and curious creatives alike—guides you through the full printmaking process, from sketching the design to carving the block and pulling your first print. You will learn essential techniques for safely operating carving tools, transferring images with printing presses, and working with black and colored inks to create high-contrast prints. Whether you are looking to explore a new medium or simply get your hands dirty in the best way, this class offers a fun and rewarding dive into one of the oldest (and coolest) forms of printmaking.
Week 1: Memo and practice day. Intro to linoleum printmaking, famous printmakers (plus a few personal favorites), carving tools, shading and texture techniques. Practice, then begin carving first image
Week 2: Pulling black and white first proofs with finished, or about finished, blocks
Week 3: Color printing. Color wheel refresher, mixing inks from primaries
Week 4: Exploring techniques and styles: layering, registration, multiple blocks
Week 5: Wrap-up. Finish prints or create new ones using combined techniques. Finalize work with signing and titling (wet prints that can not be signed will be set aside for later pickup.)

B A 8x10 sketchbook. Does not have to be new as long as there are enough blank pages in it! Optional:
Cut-resistant work gloves, recommended for added safety, as carving tools can sometimes accidentally nick your fingers.
