Ron Meick: Movements of Time — October 2019

Ron Meick, Movements of Time exhibit at Washington Printmakers Gallery, October, 2019

Opening Reception: Saturday, October 5 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm

The Washington Printmakers Gallery is pleased to present Movements of Time, recent prints of Ron Meick. This current body of work explores the nature of physical, psychological, and emotional time. These objects share a common relationship with how we measure time and the fact that we are only archives of our own sequential narratives. The poetics and physicality of time questions our commitment to learn from these collections of moments that may generate introspection of events that many times we cannot control. These prints utilize many printmaking techniques including drypoint, lithography, monotype, and embossing. Other important elements include clock/pendulum movements, sound, various metals, incorporation of the matrix (printing plate), and the use of historical prints. Printing on top of the antique prints demonstrates the technique of chine collé which pastes a thinner, more fragile paper to a thicker archival surface while making an image on a press.Ron Meick is a graduate of Rhode Island School of Design in sculpture and is the 2016 winner of the Delaware Division of the Arts Fellowship for works on paper. He has shown throughout the United States and is included many private collections in addition to the Library of Congress.
