Internships

Interns at Washington Printmakers Gallery have the the opportunity to:

  • Learn about the art of printmaking through conversations with Gallery artists, artistic presentations and demonstrations, and through handling the artists’ works;

  • Learn about the opportunities that artists have such as gallery resources, juried shows, and shows within the community;

  • Participate in the art business by taking responsibility, with a mentor, for one or more projects such as gallery process improvement, planning a show, preparing show materials, advertising, hanging a show or hosting a show; and,

  • Learn about the basic needs of operating a small art business by participating in terms of sitting, selling, coordinating, and communicating.

The ideal candidate has a background in fine art, as well as basic computer skills in Excel, Word, and Photoshop. Attention to detail and reliability is key. This internship is unpaid, but the right applicant will meet successful Washington, DC artists and collectors while learning the inner workings of a successful gallery that has been consistently running since 1985.

Duration and hours of the internship are flexible. Interested applicants should contact us. In general, we will request a cover letter and current resumé.

We also gladly welcome volunteers who are willing to work in the gallery.
