Anne Timpano

Artist Statement

My formal training was in printmaking and drawing. On occasion, I have combined those two primary media with collage, digital printing, photography, rubbings, and other processes. Presently, it is the linocut that figures most prominently in my work. Subjects of interest to me range from the figure of Botticelli’s Venus, through which I explore the role of women in contemporary society, to the iconic osprey, or fish hawk, which flourishes in coastal waters all over the world. I also explore topics from personal experience and memory. I have heard authors advised to write what they know, and I believe that is good advice for artists, as well. Every work that I produce usually has a narrative behind it, either real or imagined. It is that back-story that inspires me and feeds my creative process.
