Artist Statement

Making art is a driving force — I don’t remember a time I didn’t have a crayon, pencil, paintbrush, carving tool or garden clippers in my hand. Though I currently consider myself a painter first, I love to explore and am enthusiastic about the flexibility offered in printmaking techniques, be it relief or plate work. In particular, I have found monotype multiple press process to be an increasingly important tool in creating layers on paper I can’t achieve by working directly with a brush or other mark maker. In that regard, collage has increasingly become an element in my printmaking compositions as I juxtapose color shapes or imagery to add depth and interest.
