Using images mostly from travels in Asia and Latin America, I've used two formats: Woodblock Prints and Screenprints. Only one screenprint is done from a photographic image transferred with photo emulsion onto a screen. The others are using a method I recently learned called Reduction Screenprinting. That method involves drawing an image on the screen, using screen filler to block out the lightest areas, pulling ink through the screen, and repeating for each color. You end up with a screen mostly blocked out with screen filler. One advantage is that it's much less toxic to clean up. I am enjoying it a lot. J. Leigh Garcia, a professor at the University of Tennessee, taught a workshop at Penland on this method. It's fun!
