Thousands of dots in ten colors pressed into the paper—each one a person, a life, a story.
I carved them into a rectangle. Contained. Orderly. Legal.
But some dots refused borders. Red bled past the edge. Yellow wandered over the line. Green escaped entirely, desperate for space.
The population squeezed tighter inside—blue crushing against orange, purple overlapping brown. Density becoming suffocation.
Those dots beyond the border looked the same as those within. Same colors. Same size. Only their position made them transgressive.
I hung the print at the immigration office.
No one understood.
