Drawing 1& 2: Fundamentals of Drawing and Composition with William Demaria - 8 Sessions

Wednesday, March 4 th to April 1 st & April 15 to 29 th (No class April 8 th )

Beginning with traditional forms of drawing, this 8-week class will start by teaching comparative measurement, and the basic techniques artists have used to draw for hundreds of years. Next this class will transition to working from direct observation and teach students how to find inspiration from the world around them. Finally, students will apply what they learned and challenge their abilities by drawing landscapes and the human form.

Syllabus:

Week 1: Master Copy Bargue Drawing- Introduce Comparative Measurement

Week 2: Master Copy Bargue Drawing- Understanding hard and soft edges

Week 3: Still Life- Comparative Measurement, Drawing from Direct Observation.

Week 4: Still Life- Understanding Light and shadow. Blending with Pencils

Week 5: Drawing Landscapes- Composition

Week 6: Drawing Landscapes- Creating space through hard and soft edges

Week 7: Drawing with a live model

Week 8: Drawing with a live model

Adult (young adults permitted with prior approval from instructor), all skill level

William Demaria is a Baltimore based artist who has always loved drawing and traditional oil painting. He finds the process of creating artwork itself to be beautiful and has always been interested in studying the way artwork is made. He believes that every student, no matter their skill level, has an individual voice that should be developed.
