William Demaria
Artist Statement
William Demaria seeks to express ideas and emotions he experiences in the landscape but struggles to explain with words. In his eyes, the landscape is a diverse and living subject that simultaneously reflects greater lessons about humanity and preserves memories of thousands of years of history. Inspired by this dual nature, Demaria attempts to create artwork that combines historic and contemporary printmaking techniques and makes artwork that conveys emotions and conceptual ideas through the processes in which his artwork is made.
Biography
Native to Long Island, New York, William Demaria studied fine arts at Cornell University where for 4 years he was inspired by the dynamic landscape of Upstate New York. After graduating, Demaria’s education continued after he became a printer at Universal Limited Art Editions (ULAE) for three years. At ULAE, he refined his abilities as a printer and was perpetually immersed in incredible prints made by artists including Jasper Johns, Amy Cutler, Kiki Smith. After leaving ULAE, Demaria moved to Baltimore where he currently lives and works full time as an artist.

Fortunately, with a little bit of knowledge and the right tools and materials, it doesn’t have to be you can build the highest possible quality frame for approximately $80.
Beginning with traditional forms of drawing, this 8-week class will start by teaching comparative measurement, and the basic techniques artists have used to draw for hundreds of years. Next this class will transition to working from direct observation and
teach students how to find inspiration from the world around them. Finally, students will apply what they learned and challenge their abilities by drawing landscapes and the human form.
