New WPG Member Spotlight: Peggy Cormary
Washington Printmakers Gallery is thrilled to welcome Peggy Cormary to our cooperative! Cormary brings a unique perspective as a photographer whose work bridges the worlds of image-making and printmaking.
“As a photographer, I’m drawn to how WPG honors the craft behind every image — the precision of light translated into the texture of paper. I joined because printmaking feels like the natural extension of my lens: another way to slow down, explore process, and let emotion take form.”
Cormary’ s artistic journey reflects a deep commitment to process and materiality. Her recent projects include The Blind Spot, an evocative exploration of perception and absence, and an exhibition at the French Consulate in Washington, where her work celebrated the interplay of light and narrative. She also shares her expertise through programs including Glen Echo, inspiring others to see photography as both craft and conversation.
Photographic Process:
Cormary’ s approach to photography is deeply intentional, focusing on how light interacts with form and surface. In the image here, she captures a single dried rose under controlled lighting, emphasizing texture and shadow. This meticulous setup reflects her philosophy: slowing down to observe the quiet drama of everyday objects. By isolating details and experimenting with light, Cormary transforms simple subjects into meditations on time and fragility — a sensibility that carries seamlessly into her printmaking practice.
Artistic Themes:
Cormary’ s work often explores the tension between presence and absence, using light as both subject and metaphor. Her images invite viewers to slow down and notice the subtleties of time, memory, and emotion. Whether through photography or printmaking, Cormary emphasizes process — layering meaning through texture, shadow, and the quiet spaces between forms.
