Engaging the Wild

Sculptural Monoprints

Opening Reception: Friday, October 3, 17:30 to 19:00pm

Barbara Bitondo is an artist who transforms nature into art that feels both intimate and expansive. This month, the Washington Printmakers Gallery proudly presents Engaging the Wild, her exhibition of sculptural monoprints and framed works on paper that seamlessly merge printmaking with textile traditions.

Working at the intersection of monotype, botanical monoprint, and machine stitching, Barbara layers hand-printed paper and silk, sewing them with both precision and spontaneity to create works rich in texture and depth. Her imagery moves fluidly between abstraction and the organic imprints of plants, flowers, and fungi, inviting viewers to experience the subtle dialogue between natural forms and artistic invention.

By experimenting with unconventional materials and processes, she pushes the boundaries of contemporary printmaking. Her work is not only a meditation on nature’s beauty but also a bold exploration of how art and ecology can intertwine to reveal new ways of seeing.

Engaging the Wild is more than an exhibition—it is an invitation to step into Barbara’s imaginative landscape, where paper, pigment, and thread become living landscapes of texture, memory, and imagination.
