Regional Representation - Rosemary Cooley: Teaching, Showing & Curating

WPG wishes to shine the light on the remarkable contributions of Rosemary Cooley — an artist whose influence extends far beyond our gallery walls and the soon-to-open, WPG Winter Salon! Known for her vibrant, layered prints, artist books, and innovative techniques, Cooley continues to shape the printmaking landscape through teaching, exhibitions, and in-house curatorial leadership!

Expanding Regional Reach Through Teaching

Cooley, who has long delivered classes at the WPG Art Studio, will lead a series of workshops at the Academy Art Museum in Easton, Maryland. Her monoprint and collagraph workshops are always popular. Experimentation and discovery are central to Cooley’s teaching technique and her classes are perfect for beginners and seasoned artists alike. Cooley’s commitment to education ensures printmaking thrives across the Mid-Atlantic region.

Discover the Elegance of Traditional Chinese Art with Cooley

Among Cooley’s line-up at the Academy is a one-day workshop inspired by the upcoming Rauschenberg exhibition. This immersive learning experience at the museum’s gorgeous studio will introdcue the timeless beauty of Xuan paper — the same handmade paper Rauschenberg explored at the world’s oldest paper mill in Jingxian decades ago. In small group setting, students will learn China Ink painting using authentic brushes and inks -- creating bold compositions enhanced with gold and white accents. See the event listing or email Cooley about enrollment.

Upcoming Exhibitions

Cooley shows regulary in notable regional venues beyond our Georgetown Gallery. She will join the upcoming show at Zach Gallery in January, alongside other contemporary printmakers. She is also represented by MassoniArt, the gallery curated by Carla Massoni in Chestertown, MD.

Cooley and the WPG The Winter Salon

WPG’s Winter Salon, among our most anticipated traditions, is a gallery-wide exhibition celebrating the breadth and vitality of member printmaking and photography. This annual event transforms our spae into a curated showcase of diverse styles, offering collectors and visitors a rare opportunity to experience the full spectrum of contemporary print art created by our members. Cooley has been instrumental in shaping the salon’s theme, Seeing Things in a New Light, coordinating contributions and ensuring the exhibition reflects both innovation and continuity. Under her leadership, this year’s Winter Salon promises to honor WPG’s legacy while introducing fresh perspectives.
